Storybook Character Parade: Monday, October 31, 2016

This year, in an effort to promote literacy, Warren Lane Elementary School will host a Storybook Character Parade on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 12:45 pm. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite story book characters.

Students will complete an “All About My Book” Poster with story elements provided by their teacher to accompany their costume.  Each class will have an opportunity to walk in the parade. Students may choose any character from a book they enjoy, following the guidelines in this letter.

In order to support students’ feelings of safety and security at our school, violent or frightening costumes are not acceptable. No weapons or dangerous-looking items will be permitted to accompany a costume.

WLES will make accommodations for students not wishing to participate in the parade. However, the assignment is a school-wide ELA task and must be submitted to the classroom teacher.

Examples of Acceptable Costumes

Harry Potter, Ramona, Superman, Spiderman, Olivia, Nate the Great, Ms. Frizzle, Junie B. Jones, etc.

Examples of Unacceptable Costumes

Characters from Goosebumps, Vampires, Grim Reaper, ghosts, horror movie characters, characters with guns or weapons, Captain Underpants, costumes that are inappropriate for age-level (i.e. too-revealing or too-short) etc
